Strait of Hormuz is Iran's legitimate leverage: Seminary official

Tabriz – Hojatoleslam Mehdi Ghasempour, head of communications and international affairs at the East Azerbaijan Seminary in Iran, has stated that the Strait of Hormuz serves as Iran's legitimate strategic lever, warning that the global economy and the United States remain heavily dependent on energy stability in the Middle East.

In an interview with the Hawzah News Agency in Tabriz, Hojatoleslam Ghasempour analyzed the field conditions across the region, describing the enemy's strategy of small-scale, controlled operations as a tactic designed to test Iran's resolve and normalize crisis conditions in public opinion.

He stressed that the continuation of these harassing attacks cannot be dismissed as a minor development and demands a serious and deterrent response to prevent the entrenchment of this trend. Such maneuvers, he added, represent a clear violation of the ceasefire and a dangerous attempt to probe Tehran's red lines.

Pointing to the undeniable dependence of the global economy and the United States on energy stability in the Middle East, Hojatoleslam Ghasempour stated that Washington, despite its claims of energy independence, is heavily impacted by the security of the Strait of Hormuz. "Iran uses this strategic waterway as a legitimate lever and will never allow vessel traffic to proceed without consideration of our national interests. Any disruption in this passageway would plunge the economies of our trade partners, and by extension global markets, into crisis," he asserted.

The head of communications and international affairs at the East Azerbaijan Province Seminary also pointed to the Zionist regime's continuous violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, describing it as proof of the fragility of ceasefire agreements.

Emphasizing that the Lebanese Resistance today stands stronger than ever, he noted that the fates of the resistance fronts—from Lebanon and Palestine to Yemen and Iraq—are intertwined, and that the enemy's efforts to sow division and focus on a single front will lead nowhere.

Hojatoleslam Ghasempour criticized the approach of Western media in censoring these acts of aggression, stating that defending infrastructure is Iran's indisputable right under international law.

He described Tehran's policy of strategic patience as a wise choice, not one born of passivity, and recalled that Iran's formidable missile, drone, and air defense capabilities have dramatically raised the cost of any adventurism for potential aggressors.

Pointing to the economic consequences of these tensions for the West and the White House's concerns over financial market volatility, the Seminary official underscored the priority of diplomacy in Iran's foreign policy. "The Islamic Republic of Iran will never initiate any war, but if a conflict is imposed upon it, it will defend its sovereignty with full force. Crossing our red lines will push the region into an irreversible phase of instability," he concluded.
